Numeracy aim to ensure that all pupils become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, are able to reason mathematically and are able to solve mathematical problems. We encourage our children to apply their maths across the curriculum and we provide them with plenty of opportunities to do so. In Key Stage 1, we aim to ensure that pupils develop confidence and mental arithmetic skills with numbers, counting and place value. This includes developing their understanding of the four operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing), measurement, data handling and shape through the use of practical resources.

In Key stage 2 we aim to ensure that all children develop efficient and written methods and that they are able to perform calculations accurately with larger numbers. They are expected to have memorised their multiplication tables up to 12 x by the end of Year 4 and they will be developing confidence in working with fractions and decimals. Measuring, shape and space and data-handling will also be taught in greater depth. By Year 5 and 6, pupils are expected to be able to undertake long multiplication and division and to be proficient in all number operations and in working with fractions, decimals and percentages.
