Over the last few weeks we have been learning all about plants (how they grow and survive). Using hydroponics we planted beans; recording and comparing there growth. Today we observed the changes to our playground allotment and planted some cress seeds; predicting how long it would take for them to grow.
Maths
We enjoyed learning about position and direction using the game 'Simon Says.'
Arena Sports Afternoon
The children thoroughly enjoyed the sports afternoon.
Design and Technology
To start off our unit of work this term (designing a healthy cereal) we recapped food groups and researched different cereals - looking at the ingredients and whether the cereal would be suitable for sustaining energy for an athlete.
Science
This term we've continued to learn about animals and their habitats with a focus on minibeasts and how they help plants to grow. As a class, we observed and identified different bugs in our planted area and created a bug hotel for a chosen minibeast.
The King's Coronation
We had a lovely singing afternoon to celebrate the King Charles III.
๐ฑ Spring Term ๐ฑ
Art
Linked to our topic in science ( living things / habitats) we designed a clay tile and then created it using different tools and techniques. We thought carefully about which habitat we wanted to create and the colours we wanted to use.
Science
In Science we have been learning all about microhabitats and animal habitats. To help us learn about our topic we examined different microhabitats around our school grounds - finding different minibeasts. We discussed and recorded the features of each habitat and the importance of keeping them safe. After examining our school grounds and learning about microhabitats we investigated different habitats around the world. In small groups, we made a diorama of a habitat- asking curious questions and researching what animals and features could be found in each.
Design and Technology
Throughout this term, in DT, we designed and made a moving vehicle using different materials. In partners and small groups we investigated how vehicles move, the similarities and differences between a range of vehicles and identified different parts. Making links to Henry Ford and his first motor car we examined how wheels and axles work. As a class, we identified the success criteria for our moving vehicles and designed and constructed our vehicles based on this. Finally, using the success criteria we tested and evaluated our moving vehicles.
World Book Day
Look at those fabulous costumes!
Geography
We found our school on a map of the village. We then had to find the tennis courts, church, shop and hairdresser, drawing a route that we could follow. Then we went for a walk around the village to test our maps, using compass directions to tell Mrs Marshall which way to go. Fortunately, Class 2 are excellent navigators and we made our way around the village safely! As always, we were so impressed with the children- both their behaviour and geography skills were fantastic!
Flight
We did something a bit different in our Maths lesson today. After an introduction to measuring length in metres and centimetres, we made paper aeroplanes and measured how far they flew. I loved seeing the children helping each other with measuring and repairing their aeroplanes.
This linked to our History unit on the First Flight.
Jigsaw
In our Jigsaw unit, we have been looking at challenges. Over the last two weeks, the children had to choose their challenge: count to 10 in Mandarin; learn a dance; or design and make an identical card with their group. The children rose to their challenges and were very successful. There were some hurdles to overcome but they all handled these fantastically well. You should be very proud of yourselves, Class 2!
Class 2 were visited by Arena and took part in a Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds project. We learnt how to keep our hearts healthy, by exercising, eating well, sleeping and drinking water. We talked about different emotions we might experience, using stories and movement to help explain and describe our emotions. We also talked about ways to help us when we are sad, worried or angry. These strategies included: spending time with friends and family; dancing; spending time in nature; arts and crafts; hugging a teddy bear; finding a safe space; taking deep breaths and finding a trusted adult to help.
Our day was filled with amazing activities! We took part in an animal explorers Pilates session; made a natural bookmark; drew rainbows of hope on the playground; designed our own colour monsters; made rockets; had a Zumba dancing lesson; listened to stories and even made an exploding volcano! It was a fantastic day with a very important message.
๐ท Maths ๐ท
We have been learning about money in Maths. Here we were exploring how to make amounts of money and challenged ourselves to make the same amount in different ways.
๐Autumn Term๐
๐ Christmas Production ๐
We were so proud of Class 2. They were amazing performers and conquered their nerves. What superstars!
๐ท Farm and Country Roadshow ๐ท
We have a great time learning about different crops and their uses as well as completing lots of different activities.
๐งฎ Maths ๐งฎ
We have been working with practical resources to learn how to count in 3s.
๐จ Science ๐จ
Printing using natural and man-made materials.
๐Maths๐
We have been using greater than and less than signs to compare numbers to 100. We made our numbers using lots of different practical (concrete) resources.
๐จArt๐จ
We have been exploring tone by adding white and black to primary colours.
๐Science๐
Investigating the absorbency of hard materials.
๐งScience๐ง
Investigating the absorbency of paper towels.
Maths
Making groups of 10 to count objects.
๐ Literacy ๐
We have been learning the poem 'Ten Things Found in a Wizard's Pocket'. We created a story map and made up some actions to help us. We have written our own versions and will change the characters to make completely new poems over the next two weeks.
